Yard Sale on July 8th!

History House will host its annual yard sale on Saturday July 8, 2017 from 9 am to 1 pm.  It is our major fund raiser each year and this year we are especially in need of donations.

You can drop off items, no clothes or large appliances please!, to the porch of History House this week.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with set up, sale hours and clean up if you are available.  Please call 625-7019 or 625-4038 if you can help in any way.

We will also be hosting a bake sale so if you can bake something, please drop it off at History House on Saturday morning, July 8th.  No items to donate?  We are also accepting cash donations!  Keep your fingers crossed for good weather but fair or foul we are on for the 8th, hope to see you there!

Saturday afternoon at the theater...

If you have not yet visited the former Playhouse Theater in Kezar Falls, here is your chance to do so.  This is where everyone who lived in this area from the 1940’s through 1971 went to the movies on weekends. Some may remember it as Welch’s Discount Store Annex.  The new owner, Silas Hagerty has done a wonderful job bringing this old building back to life.  It is his cinematography studio and he presents some interesting shows here from time to time. We are fortunate that he invites us to have a meeting here once a year and always presents a wonderful program.

A Local Landmark is No More

A chapter in local history closed April 28, 2017 as 98 year old building was demolished to make way for  Porter’s new municipal building.

where the Town Office will reside until the new building is finished.

Porter Town Hall was originally built in 1919 for Porter High School - the last class graduated in 1967 when the Sacopee Valley High School was built.  It was converted to a grammar school for several years and has served as the Porter Municipal Building since 1986.  It was determined that it was not feasible to renovate it to meet today’s building codes and needs.  The town voted to take it down and rebuild at a special town meeting last year.
