In addition to
the annual open house this historic building has been used from time to time
for life celebrations such as memorial services and weddings. In September 2006
the meeting house was the scene of the kick-off celebration for Porter's
bicentennial occurring the following year.
The day long festivities included a reenactment of the town's first town
meeting with election to all the offices of 200 years ago such as fence viewer
and hog reaver, a box lunch was served, a string band provided music and it was
a grand day!

Most recently
Tanya Wilson and James Denman chose this special place for their wedding on
September 17, 2016 and filled the building with family and friends who were
impressed by the simple charm of this 182 year old building. Tanya is the daughter of Sylvia and Ken
Wilson of Porter. Sylvia is the
Treasurer of the Parsonsfield-Porter Historical Society and Tanya learned at an
early age to appreciate history and the Old Porter Meeting House.
