This old newspaper
clipping (date prior to 1922) is not great quality but an interesting picture
from our past. The clipping reads as
follows:
“Kezar
Falls, Me., has a fife and drum corps that is known far and wide in western
Maine. It has been playing for parades
and political rallies, Fourth of July celebrations and such like for many years. It is made up of J. F. Ridlon, bass drummer;
W. H. Ridlon, fifer; and S. A. “Doc” McDaniel, snare drummer. Each is an artist in his line and “Doc”
McDaniel was for years, in his younger days, connected with leading Boston
musical organizations.”
All of these men were highly respected citizens of Kezar Falls. Besides being a musician, Dr. Silas McDaniel was a fully qualified physician and veterinarian and taught school for many years.
