The Brownfield Historical Society and the Brownfield Library are trying to raise the funds to give this Civil War hero a headstone. Mary Brown, of Brownfield, was one of legends of women who served their country and received no recognition although her husband, whom she served along side, has two stones commemorating his service in the war at his burial site in the Brownfield Cemetery.
Brad Fuller, of the Edge of Maine Gallery in Brownfield, has set up a funding site where you can see a video about Mary Brown and her service during the war. He has just finished an amazing book about the history of Brownfield which will be out early next year. If you are able to help, please visit the site and make a donation however big or small to give this woman the recognition she deserves.
